Women trailblazers shaping the global future of antimicrobial stewardship and antimicrobial resistance
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health threat, and the World Health Assembly adopted a plan in 2015 to promote antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programs. However, many countries took little action, and women have played a pivotal role in mitigating AMR-AMS through leadership, research, patient care, education, mentoring, advocacy, and outreach. This paper highlights 11 frontline women healthcare providers who have transformed challenges into opportunities and influenced global efforts. Three patient and family member advocates also provide insights into their commitment to inform the public about AMR.
